WordPress vs Shopify vs Webflow: Upwork Job Demand in 2026

Shopify and WordPress get the most Upwork web work, and both are holding steady. In September 2026, Shopify was named in 137 of every 1,000 web job titles we tracked and WordPress in 125. Both were slightly up from May. The platforms losing ground are the newer no-code builders: Webflow, Framer and Bubble all fell. The AI app builders, such as Lovable, are still a very small share.

"Web jobs" here means three Upwork categories: Web Development, Web & Mobile Design, and Ecommerce Development. We tracked 14,630 of them in September 2026 and 20,236 in May. We compare mentions per 1,000 web job titles, not raw counts, because the way jobs are collected changed during the summer.

Mentions per 1,000 web job titles

Platform or tool May 2026 June 2026 September 2026 September jobs Direction
Shopify 124 131 137 1,999 Up
WordPress 120 121 125 1,824 Steady
Wix 28 29 30 434 Steady
React 31 31 28 410 Slightly down
Figma 27 23 27 396 Steady
Squarespace 21 21 26 376 Up
Elementor 26 22 23 335 Slightly down
Next.js 21 21 22 315 Steady
WooCommerce 18 16 16 237 Slightly down
Webflow 23 24 15 225 Down
Framer 13 14 11 157 Down
Laravel 8 9 7 102 Steady
Lovable 5 5 4 63 Flat
Bubble 5 4 2 35 Down

What stands out

The big, older platforms are not being replaced. A quarter of all web job titles name Shopify or WordPress, and that share went up, not down. Clients with a store or a site already built on one of them keep needing work on it.

Simple site builders are steady too. Wix and Squarespace together appear in more web job titles than React.

The newer no-code tools shrank. Webflow fell by about a third between May and September, Framer by about a fifth, and Bubble by more than half. These are small samples for Bubble and Framer, so read the direction, not the exact size.

AI app builders are tiny on Upwork so far. Lovable had 63 web jobs in September. It gets a lot of attention, but on Upwork it is not where the volume is.

One caution about the bigger picture

Web work as a whole was a smaller share of the postings we tracked in September (12.6%) than in May (15.6%). So a freelancer can see fewer WordPress jobs in their feed even though WordPress kept its share of web work. Both statements are true: the platform mix inside web work is stable, and web work was a smaller part of what we tracked.

What this means if you build websites

  1. WordPress and Shopify skills still have the most jobs. If you already have them, there is no data here telling you to leave.
  2. Do not rebuild your profile around a new tool yet. Webflow, Framer and Lovable specialists are competing for a small and, this year, shrinking set of jobs on Upwork.
  3. Squarespace and Wix are overlooked. Developers often skip them. Clients do not.
  4. Volume means competition. About 65 Shopify jobs and 60 WordPress jobs post a day, and each good one fills quickly. See why being first matters.

Is WordPress dying on Upwork?

No. WordPress was named in 125 of every 1,000 web job titles we tracked in September 2026, slightly up from 120 in May. It is the second most named web platform after Shopify.

Which web platform has the most Upwork jobs?

Shopify. It was named in 137 of every 1,000 web job titles in September 2026, about 2,000 jobs in the month. WordPress was second with about 1,800.

Are Webflow jobs declining on Upwork?

In our data, yes. Webflow fell from 23 to 15 mentions per 1,000 web job titles between May and September 2026. Framer and Bubble also fell.

Are there Lovable or vibe-coding jobs on Upwork?

A few. Lovable was named in about 4 of every 1,000 web job titles in September 2026, 63 jobs in the month. That is small next to WordPress or Shopify, and it did not grow between May and September.
