Online musician jobs on Upwork are a small but real category. In the 30 days to 5 October 2026 we tracked 128 audio and music production jobs, about 4 a day. The median fixed-price job paid $95, and hourly jobs had a median range of $15 to $30 an hour. Music production is the largest group, but podcast and audio editing is close behind and tends to bring repeat work. US clients post most of these jobs.

How to win music jobs on Upwork

1. Before-and-after audio

For mixing, mastering and editing, the strongest sample is a short before-and-after: the raw file and your version. Keep 30-second clips for each genre or format you work in.

2. Match the genre

A client producing trap does not want a jazz reel. Link the sample closest to their reference track and say what you hear in it.

3. State your setup

Your DAW (Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton, FL Studio), monitoring and, for vocals, your microphone and room. It tells the client what quality to expect.

4. Clarify rights and splits

For production, composition and vocals, agree in writing who owns the master and the composition, and whether you are paid a flat fee or credited and paid royalties. Upwork's default terms transfer rights to the client on payment unless you agree otherwise.

5. Look for the repeat work

Podcast editing and content music for creators are the most likely to become weekly work. A good first episode often turns into a standing contract.

6. Apply early
